What I found instead was something more valuable: the chance to <em>connect<\/em>. Not just with new people, but with myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you\u2019ve ever:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Worked remotely from a coffee shop in a foreign city<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Booked a solo trip hoping for both peace, adventure, while developing a deeper knowing of yourself<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Felt a little too quiet while the world bustled around you\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">You\u2019re not alone\u2014and you don\u2019t have to <em>feel<\/em> alone either. It takes a lot of time, practice, and intiially is very unnatural for most people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">While, to be a good marketer, is simply to situate yourself in a room where people are looking for what you&#8217;re offering&#8211; this is the art of conjugation, and the first winning strategy for any solo traveler looking to make friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Into wellness? \u2192 Try yoga classes, cold plunge clubs, or bright local caf\u00e9s<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Creative soul? \u2192 Visit museums, open mic nights, or art workshops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Fitness-focused? \u2192 Martial arts gyms, group hikes, horse-back riding groups, beach workouts&#8211; or Muay Thai! (especially if you&#8217;re in Thailand as per above)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Entrepreneurial? \u2192 Check out co-working hubs, local founder meetups, or again&#8211; well lit cafe&#8217;s (preferably where people take breaks to eat and have books beside their screens..)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u2192 <em>Want more?<\/em> This is one of my favorite tips in my free guide Solo, Not Alone. Read real books. Yes, paper. I pray that no matter the advancement in technology and readers&#8211; these never go out of style.  People who read books, and newspapers&#8211; excellent at the art of attracting conversation while bettering themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Try this:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Bring a physical book instead of reading on your phone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Wear something that reflects your interests or hometown<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Take breaks from home to go Sketch, journal, check emails, or play yourmusic in public spaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/superselfversion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Photo-2025-04-04-3-03-17-PM.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3012\" style=\"width:368px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u2192 These items signal <em>who you are<\/em>\u2014and invite connection. Many, many others are searching for connection.. so why not make it a little easier for others to not only say hello, but to say, &#8220;I love that book too, what did you think?&#8221;, or &#8220;that&#8217;s my favorite artist!&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#x1f3e1; 3. Stay Social\u2014By Design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Want to meet new people? Stay somewhere that makes it easy. Ask for recommendations often. Smile, say hello, and be more impressed then impressive&#8211; a great listener over a great talker if you want to make a friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Top choices:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Hostels with shared kitchens or lounges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Guesthouses with group meals or local tours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Airbnbs with co-working spaces or friendly hosts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&#x1f4ac; <em>Tip: Go where solo travelers go. They\u2019re often just as open to connection as you are.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#x1f4ac; 4. But even the best gyms are easier to come acoss then great friends. I stayed for 5 days eating nearly every meal, sweatin, smiling, and hanging out with these two wonderful souls&#8211; my good friends, Alisa &amp; Alex.. I&#8217;ll see you both again.]<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Simple, powerful, underrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Practice smiling and saying hello\u2014yes, even if it feels awkward at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Some of my best travel memories started with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><em>\u201cHey, where are you from?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em>\u201cThat\u2019s a great book\u2014how are you liking it?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><em>\u201cI&#8217;m riding solo, are there any cool places you&#8217;ve been around here?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">[This is pretty much how I met my new friend Natalie below &#8211; after a warm hello, while sipping my coffee and asking where she was from and if she knew any places to venture&#8211; turns out she was another solo traveleler looking for the same.. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And so for the next day before she left the area, off we went to explore temples and hit the night market in Chiang Mai together (by far the most impressive night market I&#8217;ve ever seen, by the way).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">It\u2019s not about having the perfect line. Offer, Invite, Initiate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Be the one who makes the first move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Invite someone to grab food after a tour or group activity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Offer to take a photo of someone at a viewpoint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Suggest co-working together the next day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Recommend your favorite local spots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">You don\u2019t need to wait for connection. Create it. Trust me when I say you&#8211; and others around you will be thankful you wheny you initiate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#x1f9f3; You\u2019re Not Just a Traveler\u2014You\u2019re a Friend in the Making<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Friendships don\u2019t have to be long-term to be meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Whether it\u2019s one shared sunset, a deep late-night conversation, or a 5-day adventure with a new bestie\u2014you\u2019ll carry those memories forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\">\u201cSolo travel doesn\u2019t mean traveling alone.
